Souness fuels Pogba war of words with ‘put your medals on the table’ jibe

Graeme Souness has escalated his ongoing feud with Paul Pogba by saying that the Manchester United midfielder should compare career honours with him.

Souness is a long-standing critic of Pogba and what he deems as a lack of work rate on the part of the France midfielder, saying last month that he would have been “an absolute doddle to play against”.

However, Pogba hit back at criticism by telling the UTD Podcast: “I didn’t even know who he was, really. I heard he was a great player and stuff like that. I know the face but [not] the name…I like to focus on football.”

And fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher poked some fun in Souness’ direction by bringing up Pogba’s comments on The Football Show. “There’s been a story about Paul Pogba this morning and the interesting thing about it, we’re quite critical of Paul Pogba,” he said.

“When you’re a player you’ve got to be respectful certainly of certain players’ opinions at different times and you’ve got to take that criticism on the chin. So to come out and say he’d never heard of Graeme Souness I thought really was below the belt.”

However, Souness hit back by saying “I’m happy with that,” before adding: “The oldest thing in football comes to mind – put your medals on the table.”

To which presenter Dave Jones pointed out “He’s got a few, Graeme.”
