Real Madrid are reportedly ready to turn their attention to Arsenal talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Los Blancos have found their groove again this season following Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Bernabeu.
However, the French chief is still expected to shuffle his squad once the coronavirus crisis is over.
There will be no Premier League football in England until at least April 30 and La Liga action is also suspended indefinitely.
Europe’s elite clubs are still considering their transfer options, though.
And – with Karim Benzema now entering the twilight of this career – Zidane is eager to consider replacements for the burly France international.
Tottenham forward Harry Kane is high on Real’s wishlist. But club supremo Daniel Levy has no intention of selling his prized asset – even if a mega-money offer is submitted.
According to Spanish media outlet Diario Madridista, Real do not want to get dragged into a protracted transfer saga with Spurs over Kane.
Instead, they’re ready to turn their attention to Aubameyang.
The Gabon international has been a standout performer for Arsenal since signing from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
He’s scored an astonishing 61 goals in 96 games despite the Gunners’ woes in recent seasons.
Real believe doing business with Mikel Arteta’s outfit will be far easier than with Spurs.
Nevertheless, Zidane could face stiff competition from his own arch-rivals.
Starsport understands Barcelona retain an interest in Aubameyang, who they have long admired.
The Catalans signed ex-Middlesbrough forward Martin Braithwaite from Leganes in February as cover for Ousmane Dembele.
The 28-year-old is only viewed as a short-term fix, though.
Nou Camp bigwigs are still eyeing world-class replacements for Dembele following the young forward’s injury-ravaged tenure at the club.
