Vicky Kaushal is a quite popular young actor in the Bollywood industry. With films like URI: The Surgical Strike and Masaan, he has made his place in the industry. But did you know he has an equally good looking and talented brother Sunny Kaushal who is also a movie star? He is making his digital debut soon, read fascinating details about him.
Sunny was born on September 28, 1989, to action director Sham Kaushal. He is the younger brother of Bollywood actor Vicky Kaushal who gained fame through films like Masaan and URI: The Surgical Strike.
You will be surprised to know (I was surprised too!) that Sunny was a talented student at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. However, he left CA study soon to learn acting.
Assistant Director In Popular Movies
Before making his acting debut, Sunny worked as an assistant director on the films My Friend Pinto (2011) and Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer Gunday (2014).
Bollywood Debut and Work
Mr. Kaushal made his Bollywood debut with Sunshine Music Tours and Travels in 2016. In the same year, he also worked in the TV Mini-Series Official Chukyagiri. In 2017, he was part of the short film Love at First Sight.
Though he hails from a filmy background, he didn’t have a dreamy launch. He had revealed in an interview that his father had asked him and brother Vicky Kaushal not to expect a smooth journey in Bollywood. Sharing his struggle, he said, “Well, the struggle started with my father’s statement, ‘Because of my name, somebody might entertain you in their office and offer a cup of tea or coffee, but they will not give you a job. It’s your own hard work that will get you that.’That shattered our bubble. For a long time, I battled the thought that maybe I am not cut out to be an actor, because no matter where I went, I always faced rejection.I think it’s a process of self-growth, because you don’t have a Plan B. So, you tell yourself, ‘I don’t know what’s going to happen today, but tomorrow, I will’. Then there were lots of auditions and small jobs here and there. I would say that my struggle is pretty much what everyone goes through. No matter which job you do, you have to go through a particular grind, which helps you evolve. “
In 2018, he gained commercial success through a pivotal role in Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy starrer Gold. Gold was a sports drama film based upon the Indian national hockey team’s title at the 1948 Summer Olympics. He portrayed the role of Himmat Singh, a character inspired by Balbir Singh.
He worked so well in Gold that he was nominated in 25th Screen Awards in the Best Supporting Actor category.
While talking about the success of the film, he said, “Oh it’s surreal. I actually did not imagine such a response but it’s a great validation for an actor.”
Sunny also worked in V Mini-Series Official CEOgiri, which was a spin-off of the 2016 series Official Chukyagiri.
What Is He Up To Now?
Sunny’s latest film Bhangra Paa Le released on January 3 and received a mixed response.
Interestingly, Sunny’s latest Web Series, “The Forgotten Army – Aazadi Ke Liye” started streaming today (January 24) on Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on real events about the men and women in the Indian National Army (INA) led by Subhash Chandra Bose and is directed by Kabir Khan.
