Philippe Coutinho sends message to Liverpool over Premier League title success

Philippe Coutinho is not surprised and ‘so happy’ by Liverpool’s success in the Premier League this season and insists he does not regret leaving Anfield.

Brazilian forward Coutinho left Liverpool to join Barcelona in January 2018 in a stunning £146million transfer deal.

But the 27-year-old struggled to cement a starting place in Barca’s starting XI and joined Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on loan at the start of the season.

Many Liverpool fans were concerned by Coutinho’s departure but his sale paved the way for big-money moves for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

With the help of Van Dijk and Alisson, Liverpool won the Champions League last season and are on course to win the Premier League for the first time since 1990 this term.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are currently 22 points clear of second-placed Manchester City with 13 matches remaining and Coutinho said: ‘Liverpool is flying, and it doesn’t surprise me.

‘We’ve seen it already last year when they won the Champions League, but I’m also not surprised because of their fantastic squad and manager.

‘I am so happy for them, because I have so many friends there, former team-mates, so I’m just so happy for them, but that’s all.’

Coutinho added in an interview with Sports Illustrated: ‘I don’t look back. I took another path, and now I am on another journey, much like everyone else.

‘I’m focused entirely – just like them – on reaching my dreams. I’m happy with what I did in the past, and now I can only look forward.’
