Liverpool are reportedly ready to offer Virgil van Dijk a bumper £50m new deal to commit his future to the club.
The Holland international has been a revelation since joining the Reds from Southampton for £75m in January 2018.
His rise has been so meteoric that many now place the 28-year-old as the best defender in world football.
Since signing he has helped Jurgen Klopp’s men reach two successive Champions League finals and they are on the brink of winning a first Premier League title.
Last season he won the PFA Player of the Year award and only missed out to Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or gong.
And he is set to be rewarded for his efforts with a lucrative five-year deal by the Anfield club, according to Football Insider .
His current wages of £125,000 would rise to around £150,000 to make him one of the highest paid players at the club.
It is believed a new deal for Van Dijk is viewed as a ‘priority’ by the club’s owners, such is his importance to the cause.
The Dutchman has played every minute in the Premier League this season with Klopp’s men only dropping two points so far.
They are currently 22 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the pile and are still on course for the treble.
They play Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last-16 and travel to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round.
