Liverpool have opted to step up their interest in signing Norwich playmaker Todd Cantwell as they push for a £30m transfer.
Jurgen Klopp and his staff were able to get a close look at the 21-year-old on Saturday at Carrow Road.
Cantwell impressed once again in the Reds’ narrow 1-0 Premier League victory against Daniel Farke’s bottom side.
While Norwich have struggled for points consistently since gaining promotion from the Championship, Cantwell certainly hasn’t shied away from the challenge in the top flight.
The Canaries star has scored six goals in 26 Premier League matches, while he has also picked up two assists.
Norwich have struggled going forward in general this season, with only Crystal Palace (23) scoring less than them in the Premier League.
Striker Teemu Pukki has 11 of Norwich’s 24 goals, showing how limited the team has been, but Liverpool have identified Cantwell as a rising talent within their group.
And according to The Athletic , Liverpool have stepped up their interest, with Norwich aware the table toppers are keen on their No.14.
The Reds are looking ahead to the summer transfer window already and could beat a number of other interested parties to Cantwell’s signature.
It is said Liverpool are now leading the race to sign Cantwell ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
That move could see Cantwell avoid dropping back down into the Championship and subsequently teaming up with the Premier League winners.
He would have some serious competition for a place at Anfield if Liverpool were to complete a deal, with Norwich holding out for £30m.
Takumi Minamino has found game time hard to come by since joining at the start of January, and Cantwell would likely be more of an investment for the future.
Liverpool appear to have seen enough quality from him, though, to determine he is worth pursuing.
At the weekend off the back of the match, Cantwell told Norwich’s official website: “[Liverpool] are the best team in the world at the moment but they came to Carrow Road and didn’t have an easy game – that’s a credit to everyone.

“The way Sadio Mane takes that out of the air and the way he snaps at it with his weaker foot [for the goal] is frightening.
“We knew we were up against some of the best players in the world. Any sniff of a chance and you’ve got a horrible feeling they’re going to take it.”
On his own situation, Cantwell added: “I think I’m improving game by game and I feel like I’m becoming a better footballer. On a personal note, I’m loving it, playing in the Premier League against the best.”
