Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp calls on ‘greatest asset’ to step up and inspire West Ham win

Liverpool have had nearly a week to mull over the close loss to Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last-16 first leg and Jurgen Klopp has called on the fans to help inspire a return to winning ways they host West Ham tonight. The Reds are on an incredible 17-game winning run in the Premier League and will be looking to restore their 22-point lead at the top of the table.

Liverpool need just 15 points from the remaining 12 games to win their first top flight title in 30 years.

They have been the best team in England by some margin this year and come up against a West Ham side with just one league win since the turn of the year.

But Liverpool enter the game with the defeat to Atletico still fresh in their minds.

Klopp and the entire first team squad were not involved in the EFL Cup loss to Aston Villa back in December, meaning the senior squad haven’t lost since the opening game of the Champions League group stage against Napoli back in September.

They bounced back then with an impressive 2-1 away win against Chelsea as Roberto Firmino and Trent Alexander-Arnold came up with the goals.

At Anfield though, the Reds have proven to be unstoppable, winning all 19 games played at Anfield across all competitions.

And Klopp has urged the Liverpool fans to once again get behind their team in order to help them continue their impressive run.

“What will be critical for us this evening is the support from our greatest asset of all – the Anfield crowd,” Klopp wrote in Monday’s match day programme.

“It’s a Monday night and it’s under the lights. It’s been a break since we were all here last and I think that adds to the hunger.

“But most important is that our supporters recognise just how much we need them.

“They have played a huge role in giving us the base we have currently. Now – like the players – it’s about upping the game for the decisive period.

“Anfield will be ready to perform, as they and the team have done until now, to the highest level imaginable.
