Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker is in self isolation after his son George started showing symptoms of the coronavirus.
Only yesterday did the 59-year-old call for an official lockdown across the UK due to many still not taking the Government’s advice on social distancing.
Come Monday morning, Lineker has been forced to stay indoors himself as George has spent time with him recently.
Lineker posted on Twitter: “In self isolation as @GeorgeLineker has symptoms.
“They’re not the regular ones, but complete loss of sense of taste and smell. Odd these have not been pointed out much.
“Been nearly a week and has spent time at mine. I’ve been vigilant, hand washing/distancing but isolation it is.”
While the Premier League and European football has been suspended due to the outbreak and spread of the virus, Lineker has not stopped working.
Match of the Day was replaced by Mrs Brown’s Boys on BBC1 on Saturday 14 much to the displeasure of footie fans.
The highlights show was brought back as a result this weekend, where Lineker, Alan Shearer and Ian Wright discussed their best ever Premier League captains.
Lineker has also been doing a podcast for the BBC with Shearer and Wright, but that may have to be put on hold given the latest update.
The former Tottenham, Leicester, Barcelona and England striker also raised concerns with regards to some of George’s less common symptoms shown.
A loss of sense of taste and smell has not been as widely reported in relation to the coronavirus.
And Lineker, warning his 7.5m followers on Twitter, also added: “Worth being careful if you lose your sense of taste and smell. You could unknowingly have the virus.
“I checked all this with a doctor before sharing the information. Stay safe.”
