Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi is fighting for his Gunners future

REVEALED: Matteo Gunedouzi is fighting for his Arsenal future after ruthless Mikel Arteta axed him for Newcastle win because of a bad attitude in Dubai winter training camp

  • Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was dropped by Mikel Arteta on Sunday
  • The Gunners won 4-0 against Newcastle without the midfielder in the squad
  • He is facing a fight for his future with Arteta said to be unhappy with his attitude
  • Sources claim he was unimpressed with him during the winter break in Dubai

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is facing a fight to convince Mikel Arteta he has a long term career at the club.

Manager Arteta axed the France international from the squad for Sunday’s victory over Newcastle in what is viewed as a warning to the midfielder.

Sources claim the Gunners boss was unhappy with Guendouzi’s attitude during the club’s recent winter break training camp in Dubai – and his withdrawal from the match-day squad for the game against Steve Bruce’s men was the end result.

Arteta has stressed to his players the importance of discipline as he tries to rejuvenate that has been stuck in rut in recent seasons.

A key element of that is that the Spaniard selects his squad based on performance in training during the week, something that was lacking from Guendouzi hence his absence on Sunday.

Having arrived as one of Unai Emery’s first signings at the start of last season, Guendouzi has shown promise at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta was reportedly left unimpressed with Guendouzi’s attitude over the winter break

But he is now facing the prospect of having to win Arteta’s trust back after being dropped.

The Frenchman started Arsenal’s final game before the winter break, a 0-0 draw at Burnley, but when asked about Guendouzi’s absence on Sunday, he replied: ‘The reason is that players who, in my opinion, are training better, behaving better and are more applied to deliver on the pitch, what we want, are the players selected.’

Arsenal’s next game is a trip to Greece to play Olympiakos in the Europa League Round of 32 on Thursday.
