Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk was spotted shunning West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek’s request for his shirt in toe-curling footage which emerged after the side’s met on Monday night.
A pulsating game saw the lead change hands three times but Jurgen Klopp’s side ultimately run out winners – as they have in all but one of their 27 Premier League games so far this term.
Van Dijk was beaten to the punch by Pablo Fornals for West Ham’s second goal at Anfield and the Netherlands international looked displeased with his performance as he left the pitch.
And unfortunately for Soucek, who joined the Hammers on loan from Slavia Prague in January, the former Celtic man didn’t respond kindly to being asked for his Liverpool shirt.
In the video at the 12:13 mark , Soucek was quick to approach the Dutchman and can be heard asking, “Virgil! Can I get your shirt?”
Van Dijk quickly responds with “I’ve already given it to him,” and points to Soucek’s team-mate Fornals.
The 24-year-old Czech Republic international is visibly crushed at not getting the shirt of one of the league’s best players.
It summed up a disastrous evening for Soucek who left the pitch early in the second half with an injury.
Van Dijk spoke after the win which extended the Kop outfit’s lead at the top of the Premier League back to 22 points.
“Not being nervous, that is the main thing,” he said. “Keep going and keep playing and keep pressing. There will be moments when the opponent is going to have problems if we keep doing the same thing.
“They (West Ham) were a little bit better in the second half than the beginning, they played quite well but I think not being nervous is the main thing.”
