The 2021, Season 19 of American Idol is a gift that keeps on giving. This year some amazing talents have truly been found. In these tough times, their sweet voices have given us all relief. This season’s judge Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, have been tough and motivating for the contestants. The music and even the coaches, have been stellar this season. We have had Coldplay and other amazing singers and song writers joining this year’s roster.
The Finalists:
This season had great talent, but as with all things. Five stars shone brightly. These performers were stand outs right from the beginning.
Amongst the five finalists:
- Willie Spence
- Grace Kinstler
- Chayce Beckham
- Casey Bishop
- Caleb Kennedy
But on May 2021, a scandal came to the surface-a snapchat video showing Caleb Kennedy, standing next to someone in a Ku Klax Klan hood. This caused major upheaval since the finalists were already set. On May 12, 2021, Caleb left the competition. Now, the remaining competitors Willie Spence, Grace Kinstler, Chayce Beckham and Casey Bishop, were the final four.
Amongst these, Grace, Willie and Casey have always stood out. Last night, Finneas, brother to Billie Eilish mentored the finalists. This brought a soulful evening filled with songs that brought the final four into focus. Great vocals paired with both Finneas and Luke Bryant’s performance made for an incredible evening.
The Performances:
Chayce Beckham sang “Colder Weather” by the Zac Brown band. Chayce has really come into his own as a performer. His style reflects his dynamic range, the judges were moved by this incredible singing. Grace sang “ A Moment Like This” by Kelly Clarkson. Grace has often been compared to Clarkson for amazing tone and her style of singing.
Casey performed “wish u were gay” by Billie Eilish, which is poignant because of Finneas bond with his sister. She was praised for her versatility and her continued improvement. Willie belted out “Glory” by John Legend. Willie is acknowledged as the soul of this year’s group. And of course Finneas sang “Till Forever Falls Apart”, a beautiful duet with singer Ashe.
But the standout performance was the duet by Willie and Grace, “What They’ll Say About Us”, which rocked the stage.
